Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Welcome!
Since this Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent i decided to, for the season of Advent, put songs that are from the 5 days of advent, 4 Sundays and one on Christmas eve.
The first Sunday of Advent is: The Prophets Candle Nov 28
Here is what it says ” This candle reminds us of the great promise of God, first made in Genesis 3:15. God declared that one day He would send the seed of the woman, a divine deliverer through whom sinners could be rescued from bondage to sin and brought back into fellowship with God. The prophets anticipated the first coming and charged the people of God to prepare their hearts for the coming King. On this Sunday we rejoice in the faithfulness of God to keep His promises and pledge ourselves to be shining examples of His redemption as we anticipate His second coming like. [Readings: Isaiah 7:14; 9:1-7; 61:1-3]“
And one of the songs we will be singing as a congregation this Sunday is Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus. This song was written in 1744 by Charles Wesley and was part of an 18 poem collection called, Hymns for the Nativity of Our Lord. The Tune behind the lyrics is “Hyfrydol” written by a 20 year old Welshman, Richard Prichard in 1830. the song title means “Good Cheer”
I pray you have an blessed holiday season and that you find these songs a blessing throughout your day.
