Worship Songs For You To Worship To And Learn

There is a Fountain

Hey Everybody! This is a video response to a request that was made.

This Hymn was written by William Cowper (Pronounced Cooper). There surprisingly is not a whole lot of information to be found online about the history of this particular hymn, what there is a ton of history is in the man who wrote the Hymn. From researching it turns out that this man suffered from sever depression as well as other numerous physical and mental struggles. He wrote this hymn in the midst of his anguish.

So why is this interesting? It is interesting because we see a man living out what the word tells us to do in our times of struggle. To find our comfort and joy in the Word and In God, not of material or worldly things. He found comfort in Zechariah 13:1 “On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.”  The Holy spirit inspired him and he wrote this Hymn. I pray that this real life example will affect us in our day-to-day lives.

  1. Piper writes a mini bio in his “swans are not silent” series. It’s in “the hidden smile of God”. by the time I came to the end, I honestly wondered if he was even saved. So when I sat next to Piper on the plane, I asked him about it and he said, “not all mental illness is the result of sin.” obviously, we can’t know his heart, but it did look like he had serious issues throughout his life. And did you know who his buddy was who brought him through all of these turbulent times?
